Conclusions of the Conference "From Introversion…to Euroversion – In Search of Economic and Social Cohesion",
The
conference titled "From Introversion…to Euroversion – In Search of
Economic and Social Cohesion", held on May 14, 2025, at the European
Parliament Events Hall in Greece, was a significant initiative of the European
Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) Amphictyony for promoting economic
and social cohesion across the broader European region.
During
the event, the challenges faced by local and regional authorities in their
efforts to shift from a state of introversion to a more outward-looking and
collaborative approach were highlighted. The importance of cross-border
cooperation, the exchange of best practices, and the strengthening of
intercultural ties was emphasized as vital to achieving sustainable development
and social cohesion.
The
participants stressed the need for:
- Strengthening cooperation mechanisms between
local and regional actors,
- Recognizing that town twinning is not merely a
cultural exchange activity, but increasingly functions as a development
tool, capable of being integrated into European programs and acting as a
catalyst for change from the local to the European level. When supported
by strategic planning, town twinning can become a lever for development
and intercultural communication,
- Promoting the Cultural Routes of the Council of
Europe as a means to highlight and utilize the tangible and intangible
cultural assets of local communities. These routes serve as a form of
cultural diplomacy, with a strong developmental and educational dimension,
- Enabling transnational institutions to design
co-governance, co-financing, and co-management models that transcend the
structures and limitations of nation-states.
