E.G.T.C. AMPHICTYONY

The Mediterranean, our sea, is the lake of its Peoples. Those Peoples marched through time and space, alone, sometimes as nomads and tribes and later as independent entities or in the shadow of great empires, with periods of peaceful co-existence, rivalries, friendships, defeats and victories highlighting civilizations whose roots can be found throughout the modern world, always having as common denominator the history written in this particular part of the world. 

Maintaining relations of cooperation and twinning with one another, the Twinned Municipalities, Associations and Areas of the Mediterranean believe that it is a matter of great importance for their peoples to live in a continuously peaceful environment and one of constant development, financially effective, socially just and environmentally viable with cohesion and security in their areas. 

The Twinned Municipalities, Areas and their Associations of the Mediterranean, members of the AMPHICTYONY Network of Twinned Cities and Areas of the Mediterranean that was established with its 1997 charter, realizing the need to adjust the existing charter to the Regulation EK 1082/2006 of the European Parliament and Council of July 5th 2006 for the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation , decide to amend the Charter of AMPHICTYONY as follows in order for it to evolve into an E.G.T.C Network.

Silver Recycling Democracy Lab

Welcome to the Silver Recycling Democracy Lab, an initiative that places our senior citizens at the forefront of local democracy and environmental protection!

The core mission of our project is simple yet impactful: to empower older adults by providing them with the tools to actively participate in environmental decision-making within their communities. By using recycling as a practical, everyday entry point, we transform a simple habit into a bridge for constructive dialogue with local authorities.

Our Goals at a Glance:

  • Inclusion in Action: We activate a demographic group that is often underrepresented, ensuring that no one is left behind in local environmental decision-making.
  • Participatory Governance: We enable citizens to co-create recycling solutions and interact directly with their local municipalities.
  • Digital Innovation for All: We utilize a simple, user-friendly digital participation tool, making civic engagement accessible to all ages.

The project is fully aligned with ALDA’s Environment & Climate Hub, as well as its Digital & Innovation Hub, translating European values into tangible, local practices.

The "Silver Recycling Democracy Lab" project, secured by our organization through ALDA (European Association for Local Democracy)—of which we are an active member—aims to strengthen local democracy by actively engaging senior citizens in environmental decision-making within their community, using recycling as a practical and accessible entry point. The practical implementation of the project has already begun within our member municipalities, through the first participatory events held at the 1st KAPI of Nea Filadelfeia – Nea Chalkidona on June 25th and at the 1st KAPI of Ilion on July 2nd. Through this participatory approach, the project creates a vibrant space where senior citizens have the opportunity to voice their opinions, share everyday experiences, and contribute to identifying local recycling challenges. Based on the insights gathered from these meetings, the project facilitates a structured dialogue between citizens and local authorities, enabling the co-creation of realistic and locally relevant solutions. The core objective remains the empowerment of an often-underrepresented group, the enhancement of citizen-authority cooperation, and the promotion of a sense of shared responsibility and local ownership. By combining participation, inclusion, and environmental action, the project translates European democratic values into tangible practices at the community level.
